I don't know if they have improved the UI where it comes to loading rides/directions into them, but I never could figure out how to do it right on this one. Their "connect" program has improved to a degree that I don't really look at Strava any more.
Possibly beceause the 500 didn't do turn-by-turn and had only rudimentary mapping. You had to go to the 800/810 or newer 520 and up units to get these "advanced" features.
The newer Garmin units have BlueTooth connections, so a course easily created in Connect, can get ported right over to a device. It's painless in my experience and Connect is actually as easy to use as RWGPS.
Garmin's do have reputations for being unreliable, mostly as Garmin just does stuff differently and doesn't spend the time fixiing obvious software bugs. Wahoo has a reputation for actually listening to the users. I'd get a Bolt if doing it again, even though my Garmin 810 is pretty reliable.
