The newer Garmin units have BlueTooth connections, so a course easily created in Connect, can get ported right over to a device. It's painless in my experience and Connect is actually as easy to use as RWGPS.

Garmin's do have reputations for being unreliable, mostly as Garmin just does stuff differently and doesn't spend the time fixiing obvious software bugs. Wahoo has a reputation for actually listening to the users. I'd get a Bolt if doing it again, even though my Garmin 810 is pretty reliable.

Speaking from a very limited experience, the most common issue stems from people neglecting to empty their rides out of the unit. Syncing doesn't delete them, and then the unit locks up from lack of space. Had that happen to mine a time or two when I get lax about it. Really worrisome the first time.
