In the early/mid 1990's I upgraded from an old at the time steel Miyata blue & gold race bike with full Dura Ace to a new carbon Trek 5000. Super large axle pedal spindles, tubular tires, downtube shifters & all. Thought it was the greatest thing at the time, but realized over the years just how good that bike was. Would love to have it back. I was young, dumb and in love with tech. The Trek 5000 served it's purpose, but that's it. Don't miss that bike at all.
