Interesting thread. I'm just getting back into cycling after a 5 year hiatus. I still have my Edge 305 (and it still works and takes a charge after sitting for so long) but would prefer something that doesn't need a HR strap. Now I've comfortably worn the strap for years, but would prefer to go without the strap, if I can get some reasonable idea of my HR during a ride. I realize the strap is more accurate than the wrist sensor, but how inaccurate are we talking about here?
Will the Vivoactive HR broadcast to my Edge 305? I'm willing to spend $250-$350 to satisfy my geek requirement, but that's tops, so the Fenix3/5 and FR935 is out for me unless there's a super deal somewhere.
I play tennis weekly and ride my bicycle. Would the Vivoactive HR be a good choice for me? For cycling, I can easily continue to use my Edge 305, except I'll be missing the HR data unless I go back to the strap (if the Vivoactive HR won't connect). I would be interested to see my HR data after playing tennis too, so the Vivoactive HR is attractive for both sports, and also seems to work without needing my smart phone in order to properly work.
