My bikes are both 2015 which was the "transitional" period for road disc. I don't think you can buy a new current model road disc bike with QR axles anymore, so the "new crop" bikes don't have that issue at all because of thru axles. Other than weight, or just being a curmudgeon, I don't see any disadvantage to "new crop" disc brake road bikes.
