Bottom bracket cartridge to cup and cone Aluminium bike
I have an old 2005 aluminium Trek with failed bottom bracket bearings, If I was to get a new one it would take over a month, but I have a cup and cone one that would do the job.
My concerns:
The design of the cartridge BB from what I can tell contributes to the strength of the bikes bottom bracket tube, The two outer threaded parts compress onto the bearings outer races inturn compressing onto the BB's spacer creating a more solid component structure with the bikes BB's tube being Ali whilst also giving it strength.
I'm worried that by fitting the cup and cone, being more of a floating system the bikes aluminium tube won't handle the stress having lost the compressive strength given by the cartridge system.
Any thoughts.
