the inside hole is too small? I would drill it out. I wonder if they missed a step while building it. Did you buy it direct from them?

I don't have the adapter, but I have horizontal drops and I had to put a closed-cam QR on mine because my bike kept falling off the trainer.

I think they bought the skewers from the Trek recall:

My trainer came with an open cam skewer, that one looks like the cheapest possible skewer they could find.
