Personally, if I'm wearing long pants while riding it means it's really cool (below 10C) so I'll ride with these pants. When I rode in rains last Fall and Spring (and I did a 70km charity ride with them on a rainy 3 Celsius day in early May), they never got wet at knee level or higher. They are too warm for above 10C temperature though (even above 5C if it's sunny).
