Boatdesigner, I've read good things about the GR-9's, I think here on BF. Try searching the forums, I'm sure you'll come across several opinions on them.

I'm on my way to the LBS, I called and they said their pedals start at $7.99, so maybe I'll find something inexpensive that will serve the purpose for the time being.

Oh, and I bought some old Duegi shoes that take both old cleats and look clipless cleats. They came with sets of both types. I've already put the old cleats on them, but I won't be using those yet. Anyhow, they do look sweet:
