On a more relevant topic I had a Napa Valley Cab last night with dinner. Very much like a Bordeaux rather than Napa. A little earthy, less fruit forward but a good balance of tannins and acidity. Had a steak, massive baked potato, green beans from my garden and one ear of corn. I actually couldn't finish the steak but I put it in my chilli for lunch as a lagniappe/free added extra to myself.
So is it a secret? I would guess Bennett Lane. My experience with them is very much like what you describe. Also Buehler. Of course there are many others.
