In the early 1980s before blinkies and HID lights I converted a steady red tail light to blinking by putting a mercury switch in series with the light. Stopped, the light stayed on. Moving caused the mercury to splash around making and breaking the circuit and causing the light to blink. Now for brake lights . . .
