Yeah, I have the same tires- 40mm xplor MSO tires on my gravel bike and think the tires are still excellent on pavement, given the size.
I use Clement Strada LGG tires on a couple road bikes- really love those too. Just mentioning since Im a total shill for Clement at this point.

As for the size of the Randonneur Pro tires, they measure 35mm on my bike. The rims I have are an older Salsa cross rim that is relatively wide(23mm rim or so i think), so that may be why my tires measure out true to size.
