A couple months ago I stayed in Alexandria and rode down to Mt Vernon and spent the day. I also rode up to the monuments in DC. I visited Teddy Roosevelt island also (south of the monuments a ways).

The view of planes landing at Reagan airport is loud and pretty fun right from the trail.

The best way to sightsee in DC is definitely a bicycle.
