Glucose tablets, if you're prone to bonking and you're sure it's low blood sugar. Quickest acting stuff. But not a substitute for snacks to stave off bonks in the first place.

I've wrestled with hypoglycemia since childhood so I know the early warning signs. First symptom I chew a glucose tablet. Doesn't happen too often if I'm careful to do all the other stuff -- rest, hydration, good diet, snack during the ride as needed. But when I feel a real bonk coming on glucose tabs work very quickly.

Happens maybe a couple of times a month. It's been more frequent this summer because I've been riding more and harder at midday for heat conditioning, and the heat tends to kill my appetite. So I've experienced more bonks this summer than in the past two years. But it's still only a couple of times a month.

Often the generic glucose tablets from the pharmacy (diabetic section) is cheaper than the fancypants stuff from sporting goods stores. Same stuff, works the same. They usually come in plastic tubes, easy to carry in a jersey pocket, fumble around with one handed to pop one and gnaw it while riding.
