I get your point. And I see the value of different systems for different uses by different people.
M axe to grind here is that the market for disc brakes for road bikes is distorted by an artificially high UCI weight limit (which filters down to the rest of us not subject to UCI regs) and marketing driven sales of the latest greatest.
My fear is that discs will become dominant for artificial reasons, limiting the availability, and development, of rim braked bikes.
So buy what works for you. I just hope that discs don't become the new norm to the extent that I can't buy the latest greatest with rim brakes.
