Waaay back we all used this Benotto stuff -- looked like satiny gift ribbon. Zero grip, but it was disco-cool. Before that, cloth. I found the cloth got kinda skanky pretty quickly, and it was uncomfortable when wet (you are from Portland, right?). Then Profile for a long time, and I liked it. Now cork, always. Never going back. The stuff is the best I've ever used.
