The point about handlebar angle is well taken; I presume ergonomically the grip should be perpendicular to the forearm; this might be aesthetically sub-optimal but I can probably live with that.

No I didn't. Belonged to a childhood friend since new, maybe I rode it around the block once. This is a 23", I usually ride 24", top tube is +/- the same length as my Palo Alto.
