Go out buy some studded tires, and hit the road. Get some good clothing and you will be fine. I am a year round commuter. Then is a lot of gear you can buy to make winter riding fun, and warm. Only thing I don't have yet is clipless boots from Lake or another company. Good luck, ride hard. If you need more help there is a winter fourm with tons of info.
