In the US in that era "candy apple red" was quite popular, as were two-tone paint jobs.
For my Austrian 1959 Capo Modell Campagnolo, I chose a stock metallic red from CyclArt.com -- it is a bit more maroon than the original color, and not a true candy. The two-tone treatment is correct for this particular bicycle.
