I ride these same wheels. I got them off nashbar on a return day with 25 percent off for about 700 bucks. My braking surface doesn't look like that, I imagine the guy used regular pads or got the wheel too hot. They are good wheels, I have about 6000 miles on mine, I am a heavy rider (about 220 pounds), after 6000 miles, numerous potholes and stuff ran over, they are still true within 3mm or so. Excellent for climbing. I think they are priced too high though.
