Agreed, 1x isn't ideal for fast road riding.

Take a trek down to your local Specialized or Trek dealer and try out a cross vs gravel bike. That is what I did.

I found the highly acclaimed GT Grade and Specialized Diverge to lack pop, be more prone to pedal strike, and require a little more forceful handling, so I went for more responsive geometry. No doubt those bikes are easier to ride for straightish all day rides and for sweeping down hill turns, but that wasn't my priority.

For me, any bike will be good on all day rides if it fits me properly, has correct handlebar height, and proper tire pressure (not too stiff).
