Honestly, if you're going to go as far as to remove your chain for deep chain cleaning, you might as well invest the $20 in a small crockpot, $15 more for 3-5 pounds of paraffin wax, and just do the dip-waxed chain. That $35 setup will last you for years, and the waxed chain is SOOOOO much cleaner than regular lubes.
I switched this summer to waxing and don't plan on going back. I have 3 chains in rotation and swap in a new one every week. Every 3 weeks I drop them in the pot of wax for a couple of minutes, pull them out and hang them up. My crockpot was $2 from Varagesale. I'm still on my first lb of wax.
