I still think 99% of racers that are ever planning on going to a National-level event would've thought "TUE" before leaving the doctor's office in this case.
Again, I know the guy, he's nice, but that doesn't mean I'm sold on his reasoning. I'm gonna hit him up soon to find out more of why he did what he did (and didn't do).

everyone i know that travels to National-level events and thinks they have a chance to win is HYPER aware of testing -- and most of us are paranoid about anything we put in our body. there's PLENTY of awareness of this stuff these days (and how to check what is illegal) for an upper-level (amateur) cyclist to claim he doesn't know what to do.
the people i know who have strong anti-doping stances are aware of the chance of contamination and how that could reflect upon us; if anything, this makes us more concerned.
