Descending a nice quiet street at about 30mph )like half a dozen houses in a half-mile stretch, mostly just orange groves,) I see a couple walking side-by-side from a cross street about a quarter of a mile away. As I draw closer-- they are moving very slowly-- there's that trusty extendo-leash, with an ancient German Shepherd at the other end of it, at the maximum extension of the lead, a solid 20 feet behind the couple. So they have effectively blocked an entire 2-lane road. The dog didn't speed up, the people didn't speed up, I got to slow down.

I remain at best indifferent about dogs and humans, but the retractable leash should be banned like leaded gas and asbestos.
