The thing I've noticed about Nuovo Record rear derailleurs is they are best suited to use on the freewheels for which they were designed - 5 speeds. They shift crisply and cleanly and don't require much (if any) fiddling to tune the shifter location - the precision of the derailleur is matched to the relatively generous spacing of the cogs.

Yes, they also work reasonably well on 6 speed freewheels but I can already tell the difference - the lessened precision; the over-shifting; the need to really fine tune the lever location.

For widely spaced 6 speed freewheels, I use my Shimano rear derailleur (XCD GT or some such, can't recall right now). It handles the tighter spacing better noticably better.

I think they wouldn't work too well on a 7, 8, 9 or 10 speed block of cogs.
