When I was about 5 or 6, I had learned to ride a 16" hard rubber tire sidewalk bike. My sister was only a year younger, so when she learned to ride, we only had the one bike to share. My parents found a 20" second-hand girl's bike for me to cut down the sibling rivalry. It was a miniature balloon bike, with fenders and a basket, at a time when all the cool kids were getting Sting Rays. I wasn't thrilled about the girl's bike, but the following spring, they got me a brand new Huffy Cheater Slick, and my sister got the girl's bike. Eventually, we put a banana seat and high rise bars on it, so it looked more in style with the times.
