Even if you're mechanically inclined, this new bicycle assembly (or old bike reassembly) check list will be helpful to make sure you assemble/mount the components in a helpful order. Example: you don't want to mount the front derailleur before you assemble the bottom bracket, cranks, and chainrings.

And, depending on the material used for the frame (steel/aluminum/Carbon fiber/etc.) you should probably have your torque wrench handy and refer to torque specs:
