Hmm really? I just checked Specialized website, looks like all have the cable underneath except for the Crosstrail Sport. My bike is just the "Crosstrail Disc Brake" without the Brain system. I opted for the cheaper bike, didnt think I would need automatic suspension technology.

Crosstrail Mechanical Disc at $500 - I paid $460 for mine with some negotiating.
Crosstrail Hydraulic Disc at $600 ..includes the brain technology.
Crosstrail Sport at $830.

There was also another option at my store for $400 which was the bike without the disc brakes, I felt it was worth the extra $60 and wanted disc brakes on the bike.
