I believe the front chain ring I have is rivited. It is a shimano per Marin, but its a lower grde, so no swapping out my middle chain ring. that would have been the simplest option. I ordered a Shimano Sora 11-28 Casette, it was only $26 off Amazon, fairly cheap. Its supposed to be here tomorrow, hoping that solves my issues. I agree as I get stronger and become a better cycalist the bad gearing will become less of an issue. That said with the proper gearing I hope to make bigger improvements due to having to struggle less with the akward gears.
Should help a little. As I already said, I would actually look for a cassette without an 11 tooth cog which, IMO isn't really useful for a recreational cyclist using a triple. I have been using 12 - 25, and 12 - 27 cassettes for the last 5 years now and for flat to rolling hill terrain it works well for me.
