I have two bikes with eyelets on the stays, but also with side-pull brakes that interfere with the left eyelet. Luckily, I have my old Jim Blackburn JB-RK with a single adjustable arm to the brake bridge. Those stainless stays are pretty resilient, too. I have some that have been bent multiple times to reach around brakes or to fit different frame sizes.
