Simpler is better for the same cost. To me its ridiculous to assume cost isn't a key player in supply. Induction coils in base + phone + EMI shrouding is much more expensive than a simple jack and likely charge rate is slower as well because of inefficiency and environmental impact. Most don't like to live next door to high power line towers for the same reason.
Actually, now that I think about it the actual chargers are fairly expensive (to purchase) so it probably is somewhat cost prohibitive. Especially considering the chargers would need to be specific to the units since you can't just lay the bike down on a giant wireless charger.
