Bikes: 2019 Giant Contend 3

Nice Friday commute today. About 60 degrees, so I just wore regular clothes (jeans and polo) and felt fine. I started bike commuting again on September 7th of this year, after a long plantar fasciitis recovery. Since then I have biked to work 15 times compared to 9 driving days. I'm pretty happy with that ratio for now. I'm also training for a half-marathon so some days doing both is a bit much for my current fitness level.

I haven't bike commuted regularly since moving from Arizona to Indiana three years ago, so am learning everything all over again. Back then I had about an 18 mile one way trip from Gilbert to downtown Phoenix, sometimes augmented with bus or train, sometimes I would ride all the way. Riding in downtown Phoenix always scared me a bit! Now I live in a much smaller city (Bloomington, IN) and it's much more bicycle friendly. My commute is only 4.1 miles each way, so I'm much more willing to do it on a regular basis.

Also, my commute now is a bit safer. Much of the ride is either through low-traffic residential area or a designated trail. There is about a 3/4 of a mile stretch in busy traffic with no bike lane, so I feel fortunate with that. No close calls as of yet.
