I've mentioned a few people without using the @ symbol. I hadn't thought to look at the profile to see if the mention shows up. I didn't realize it was an option.
Oddly, the
dksix profile seems to have all the information blanked out including mentions.
I usually copy and past the user name, which automatically creates a link, but may not make it show up as a mention. @
