Hey hick02, I first used a metal clothes hanger as a mockup and made the bends there first. When I was pretty sure I had it close, I used the bent hanger as a reference for my stays. You want to hold the section you are bending with a vice, vice grips or sturdy pliers, then just use your hands or another tool to bend fairly close to where you are holding it with the vice to get a clean bend (or you might end up with a rounded bend if you start bending from too far away). Not much to it, just figure things out before you start bending and it should work out.
