Has happened to me. Wife noticed me looking, and asked if I was looking at the lady riding it. I was only looking to try to determine what the bike was. When the bike is beyond a certain distance, this is an exercise in futility, and is not worth the attempt.
I know I'm a real C&Ver when I plan out my purchases around times when there's cash in my Pay Pal account... and it's always something to advance a bike project.
Also... when you have tools that the LBS doesn't. (Crank extractors, Cotter pin presses, freewheel tools...)
