I used to work as a sport fisherman and we used Collinite Fleetwax 885 paste wax, which is an aeronautical/marine grade wax on the boat. I bought a can for my car and also use it on my bike about twice a year and either wipe down my bike with a damp cloth or wash it after every ride. It is very similar to a car wax but supposedly more durable. I haven't tried Pledge, but waxing it makes it so much easier to clean, and is required since I keep it in my house here in Japan.
