I see Nashbar and other discounters have Vittoria Rubinos (various models) steeply discounted now. I may give a 700x25 set of those a try for this winter. My bike won't take larger tires.

My bike came with Vittoria Zaffiros which were grippy but harsh riding at high enough pressure to roll well, and sluggish at low enough pressure to ride comfortably. They wore quickly and cut easily, but no flats. Maybe that's the tradeoff for such inexpensive tires.

The Schwalbe Ones were a huge improvement. Wish I'd bought a second set when Jenson had 'em one sale for only $15/ea this summer. Probably still worth the $35/ea price they're now selling for (the new/unsold 2014 model). I'm impressed by how long wearing they've been. I really didn't expect to get even 1,000 miles from 'em on our rough chipseal with so much broken glass, but other than a few small cuts I've had no problems, and no significant wear (although it's hard to tell with slicks).
