How did it ever devolve into such a pissing contest where nobody can let things go and has to have the last word?
It's the internet--deal with it! Posters can be, do, say, or claim anything they want. Unless you personally know them, you don't know them. Even pictures are not proof because how do you "know" it is pictures of them? Is it possible to have an online cage match where this can all be ended?
