I have many pairs of bib shorts so only need to wash once a week or so. If I wanted to ride with single piece bibs I'd have to wash more frequently or buy 5 or 6 pairs. Simpler to just buy one set of tights that don't need to be washed after every ride.

I still wear bib shorts in the winter but layer tights over top of the bib shorts. As I said it's warmer (2 - layers) and less expensive than bib tights.
