In any case it's a moot point. I can source a cheap Shimano 140/145mm freehub and avoid cold setting (which is only a last resort).
- The Shimano rear hub Peter White sells is a 160mm HF-08 that is listed as an HF-07. It has a 170mm threaded 10mm x 1mm threaded axle. There is no reason it couldn't be modified for 140/145mm spacing by manipulating the spacers and cutting the excess axle.
- The Shimano hubset Santana sells has this same Shimano HF-08 rear hub in 160mm. This is where Peter White gets his hubs from.
- Based on my limited survey, I could find only two suppliers of left side threaded tandem hubs, Shimano and Phil Wood. Hadley may have one as well but it's difficult to find info on it. The websites with other suppliers listed are out-of-date and Phil Wood is a maybe....
