Thanks again for the input guys. Since I will be on paved roads 75-90% of the time, I am leaning towards an endurance road bike, something like the Sportif. Getting a touring bike does seem like overkill. As long as I can put on a rack and put in bigger tires, a road bike seems best for my criteria.
