I can get the SRAM X3 7/8 Speed Bike Rear Derailleur Long Cage MTB Hybrid 1:1 on ebay for about 20$. That should do just fine?

I was originally going to buy that but after looking at a compatibility chart on the sram website it looked like I show go for short cage. It does look like the sram 3.0 was long caged so I guess I am just going to buy it.

Thank you for the help.
three sprockets in the front, right? either a mid or long cage der. is appropriate... and eitherr will work just as well... i don't recommend a short cage der. for any MTB... the rear gears should be about 13-28 range... the front should be 42-32-22, right? Just checking... "Free" bikes sometimes have lord knows WHAT parts installed.... the rather narrow range gearing would allow a shorter RD cage, but you'll be looking for a Unicorn in a flock of chickens... the X3 or X4 will work fine.
