I'm not exactly slow either. But I do want a MINIMAL amount of flat protection. The hyper or GP4000s have more than enough. There is a HUGE difference between zero flat protection, and a minimal amount put in a tire designed for speed. In my experience...zero protection equals about 1 flat a week, while a super light, un-noticeable layer of protection nets about 1 flat or 2 a season. I'll take that tradeoff, but I WON'T go for a tire that is designed to be essentially flat proof while riding through a bombed out glass factory, like most commuting tires are, when the benefit you're getting is really 1 less flat every few months vs a super fast comfy GP4000s or voyager hyper.
