We even have an earlier Thanksgiving up here in the loyal colonies (Canada). Word is that English settlers brought it over as a harvest celebration.

It seem that in North America that we took the British thanksgiving and ran with it and made it more official. A paid holiday in both the US and Canada... though in different months. Halloween is much like this too. Celebrated more in North America than it is in Ireland.
