I'm near your age, and have had similar experiences. Except mine included two broken leg bones, a destroyed meniscus, two skull fractures, and a broken neck.
Got a LOT of crap saying I need to stop riding. Heck, my Dad still thinks I should give it up.
But overall I'm WAY healthier now than before I started riding. And I've come to pretty much hate wasting my time sitting on the couch.
So I thought about what everybody was saying, and made up my own mind. I decided to keep on riding, but try to be safer - keep my wheels on the ground (mostly), more & better safety equipment, and better (I hope) risk assessment. The result has been no serious accidents in five years, so I say I made the right choice.
