Some specific questions:
1. When approaching a slower rider from behind, should you try to pass on the left (as is generally the rule on the road)? I notice a lot of riders don't really keep to the right when riding alone, which brings me to...
1a. When riding alone (without traffic), should one try to keep to the right of the lane? Again, I end up passing most people on the right rather than the left, simply because they are positioned so that there is WAY more room on the right.
2. When approaching a rider coming in the opposite direction and there are no clear lanes (or they/you are going against traffic in a one way lane), should you make an effort to pass on the right? Again, this follows the rules of the road here, although plenty of times it has gone the other way in practice.
3. Is there any meaning or difference between flashing lights or solid lights? Is it just down to personal preference, or is there some sort of rule?
I'm sure I'll think of others, and your own questions are more than welcome.
1. yes, always
1a. Lane position is a little too involved for a yes or no answer. But you should pass other riders on the left, even if you have to merge with traffic to do it.
2. Stay to the right. If someone in the wrong lane is coming at you, force them to go to your left... even if you have to stop. Also, yell at them for being an idiot.
3.Flashing in the rear is fine - flashing white in front is annoying to other users. Annoying people will disagree with me on this one.
