Inventor, have you ever raced a (sit-in) decked kayak? I have, over a timed 12-mile combination flat-water and class 2-3 whitewater course, and I can tell you that I pulled with almost every muscle in my body, including my lower body - legs, stomach, back, and upper body - arms, chest, shoulders. And heart and lungs. No way the speed of a stand-up paddle boarder could compare to that of a sit-in kayaker.
I've also raced solo and tandem canoes over the same course in the same conditions, and found myself pulling with all the same muscles. Some guys stand up in canoes for the challenge of it, but no way they develop the same power or speed as the paddler who is sitting.
