The smoothest road surface is the fastest, best way down a descent, even if it's longer and requires more lateral road movement.
Do you find that the smoothest part of the turn is the outside?
This is my experience in the Cohutta and especially up near Blue Ridge on the Souther Cross route. There are exceptions depending on the slope of the road but I find lots of washboarding on the inside of the turn.
