Maybe it is just a mental thing and some time is needed to relax?

Kreitlers are a super nice product, one of the smoothest rollers on the planet and should spin very freely without the resistance unit.

What you describe about the "trap" sounds like my Sportcrafter rolllers with the "Overdrive" resistance drum. I want to ease up to rest but then it it is just mashing and twice the energy has to be expended to get cadence back up. The cadence sweet spot is difficult to find, or non existent. It is very challenging.

Maybe something wrong with the rollers themselves.
