Kreitlers are a super nice product, one of the smoothest rollers on the planet and should spin very freely without the resistance unit.

What you describe about the "trap" sounds like my Sportcrafter rolllers with the "Overdrive" resistance drum. I want to ease up to rest but then it it is just mashing and twice the energy has to be expended to get cadence back up. The cadence sweet spot is difficult to find, or non existent. It is very challenging.

Maybe something wrong with the rollers themselves.

I think it's because the drums I have are smaller and not the "high inertia" type as your usual ones, and maybe what I'm experiencing isn't as pronounced as what you experience with your resistance drum. Doesn't explain why holding a cadence seems harder on the FG than it did on the geared bikes, but maybe that's like you say. This was my first roller ride in months - maybe just wasn't sufficiently comfortable on them yet and am 'mis-remembering" how things were and how much I may have relied on easier gears as I eased up the power before (I did practice dropping cadence as low as possible last winter, as a bike-handling exercise).
